Cookie policy
Which cookies and similar technologies PatientCapsule uses and how you can change your choice.
1. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies include local storage in your browser, pixels and tags that store or read information on your device.
On PatientCapsule, these technologies are used to provide the website securely, to store your consent choice and – only with your consent – to measure how the website is used and whether visitors arrive through advertising campaigns.
Without your consent, only the cookie that stores your consent choice is set. The study questionnaire does not use cookies or local storage. All other cookies are set only with your consent, by the analytics and advertising services described in the privacy policy and by the storage of campaign information described in section 3.
2. Consent management with Cookiebot
This website uses the Cookiebot consent management platform of Usercentrics A/S, Havnegade 39, 1058 Copenhagen K, Denmark.
When you first visit the website, the consent banner lets you accept, reject or configure the optional categories. Optional technologies are not used until you have given the required consent. Necessary technologies may be used without consent where they are required to provide the website, keep it secure or store your consent choice.
Cookiebot stores your consent status so that your choice is remembered, and documents your decision. More about the processing by Cookiebot is in the privacy policy and in the Cookiebot privacy policy.
3. Categories
Necessary: required to provide the website, keep it secure and store your consent choice. The website cannot work properly without them.
Preferences: store settings you choose to make the website more convenient.
Statistics: help us understand how visitors use the website (Google Analytics 4).
Marketing: measure whether visitors arrive through advertisements on Google, Facebook, Instagram or ChatGPT (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, OpenAI Ads Measurement) and store campaign information from the page address for up to 30 days.
Unclassified: technologies that Cookiebot has found but that have not yet been assigned to a category.
The current assignment of each technology is shown in the declaration below. It can change when the configuration of the website changes.
4. Current cookies, providers and storage periods
The following declaration is generated and updated automatically by Cookiebot's regular scans of this website. It lists each cookie and similar technology with its name, provider, purpose, category, type and maximum storage period.
5. Legal basis
Necessary technologies are used on the basis of section 25(2) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG). Where they involve the processing of personal data, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR – our legitimate interest in a secure and functional website – or Article 6(1)(c) GDPR, where processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.
Statistics, marketing and other optional technologies are only used with your consent. The legal bases are section 25(1) TDDDG and Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
6. Storage period
How long a cookie or similar technology is stored depends on its purpose and provider. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Other cookies remain until their expiry date, until you delete them or until the provider removes them. Information in local storage remains until it is deleted by you or by the service concerned. The maximum storage period of each technology is shown in the declaration in section 4.
Records of your consent decisions are kept for as long as is necessary to demonstrate compliance with the legal requirements.
7. Changing or withdrawing your consent
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with the button "Change cookie settings" on this page or the link "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. Withdrawal prevents optional technologies from being used in future. It does not delete cookies already stored on your device; you can remove them in your browser settings. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it.
8. Browser settings
Most browsers allow you to view, restrict, block or delete cookies, for example to:
- be notified before cookies are stored;
- reject certain cookies or third-party cookies;
- delete existing cookies;
- delete cookies automatically when you close the browser.
Blocking necessary cookies can affect how the website works, for example storing your consent choice. Browser settings for cookies do not always cover local storage; it may need to be deleted separately.
9. Providers and transfers outside the European Economic Area
With your consent, cookies and similar technologies of Google, Meta and OpenAI are used. These providers may process data outside the European Union or the European Economic Area, in particular in the United States. Such transfers are based on an adequacy decision of the European Commission, in particular the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for certified recipients, or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Chapter V GDPR). Details about the providers, purposes and legal bases are in the privacy policy.
10. Health-related pages
Visiting a study page can indicate an interest in a particular condition. Your answers to the questionnaire, your contact details and other information from your enquiry are never passed to analytics or advertising services, and sending an enquiry is not reported to them. With your consent, these services receive the address of the pages you visit. If you do not want this, please do not agree to the categories "Statistics" and "Marketing" – the website works fully without them. More in the privacy policy.
11. Relationship to the privacy policy
This cookie policy describes the cookies and similar technologies on PatientCapsule. The privacy policy describes all other processing of personal data, including study enquiries, the study pool, recipients, retention periods and your rights. Please read both together.
12. Changes
We update this cookie policy when legal requirements, the website or the technologies used change. The declaration in section 4 is updated automatically when Cookiebot detects changes.
13. Contact
